Please search for and buy an emulator on Taobao (Ren'Py games use Spark, RPG Maker games use RPGViewer), and ask the seller for install instructions.

Download game files

Download the game's PC package (.7z) from this site.

Import / Extract

First try importing the .7z directly into Spark (no unzipping, lowest effort). If it won't open, extract it with an unzip app and take a look: Has a game folder → still a job for Spark; Has a www folder, or js and data folders → use RPGViewer instead and select the folder containing them.

Run & play

Open the game files with the emulator to start playing. If the archive has a date folder at the top, go one level deeper.

Game synopsis

In the slanting light of Kentucky, as birdsong gives way to the chorus of frogs and insects, familiar roads turn strange, and a single misstep can leave you lost. And those already lost may find a secret highway winding through underground caves, where the people who live and work along it seem at first as unfamiliar and odd as the road itself—but you'll soon come to know them: an elderly driver making one last delivery to a dying antique shop, a young woman repairing a decrepit television haunted by ghosts, a child and his giant eagle companion, a pair of robot musicians, an electric company that can't be seen or touched yet covets everything everywhere, and communities struggling desperately against the company's authority.

Kentucky Route Zero is a magical realist adventure game in five acts, with a ghostly, lingering electronic score, interspersed with hymns and classic bluegrass songs performed by the band The Bedquilt Ramblers. Its highly distinctive visual style draws from theater, film, and experimental electronic art, while also paying homage to many video games throughout history; the game's story revolves around unpayable debt, an abandoned future, and humanity's inner drive to find a community to belong to.
