Ruina: The Tale of the Ruined City
Game synopsis
On the border of the Principality of Nes, a small town by the banks of the great river.
The protagonist living here, one day drawn by something unknown, stepped toward a corner of the forest. There lay a vast underground cavern. Feeling destiny in that place, the protagonist, together with friends Paris and Nilu, and with the help of the old swordsman Rabon, began exploring the cave.
Deep within the cave, where never-before-seen monsters roamed everywhere, a four-sided black pyramid jutted out at the center of an underground lake. From atop it appeared the vengeful spirit of a warrior reduced to bare bones, who issued a warning to the protagonist.
After driving it off, the protagonist returned to town for the time being; that night, the sounds of monsters attacking the townsfolk jolted him awake from a nightmare. The protagonist defeated a monstrous bird that seemed to be their leader, and before dying the bird left behind a prophecy of misfortune.
And just as the prophecy foretold, crops failed and a strange disease spread. The monks of the Great River Temple prophesied that the origin of it all lay within those ruins. The Grand Duke of the kingdom declared that whoever uncovered the cause of the anomaly would surely receive a great reward. Adventurers of all kinds gathered, drawn by the ruined city and its treasures.
And so, ―― in the small town by the banks of the great river, a ruin was discovered. The labyrinth and caves that crisscross beneath the earth, the ruined city and the holy sanctuary; when they see the light of day once more, the lost demonic nature is sure to revive again.
