Spring-Awaiting Dragonfly

The protagonist, Asami Teruhiko, lost his parents at an early age and lived with his younger sister, Sayaka. But then Sayaka, his only remaining blood relative, suddenly died of illness.
After his sister's funeral, Asami, having lost everything, lost all hope of living and wandered about searching for a place to die.
As if chasing after his sister, Asami boarded a train and set out on a journey with no destination. Waking from a light doze, he happened to look out the window, and outside stretched endless towering mountains dyed in a deep vermilion he had never seen before.
The beautiful scenery left Asami gazing in awe. Such beauty slightly rekindled the inner flame that had been on the verge of going out ever since that time.
After gazing at the view for a while, the train soon arrived at a tiny station. On the old wooden signboard marking the station name was written "Hotaruno Station."
As if he had decided "this is where I will die," Asami got off the train.
Lured on by the scenery, Asami climbed a slightly elevated hill and reached its summit. The cool late-autumn air brushed his cheeks, but the never-before-seen beauty and the intoxicating atmosphere intoxicated him even more, making him forget the cold entirely.
Asami decided to end his journey here. If I do this, she'll be happy for me too, surely. For some reason, that thought came to him.
...!
Suddenly... a voice came from behind him, as if calling out to him. The girl who appeared before Asami seemed to be calling out to him.
The girl was pale and looked utterly panicked. She said her older sister had fallen from a cliff and was about to drop to the bottom of the valley.
Dragged along by the girl, Asami was brought to that place, where he saw a girl in a wheelchair caught on a tree at the edge of the cliff.
Though the branches barely supported her, she was in danger of falling at any moment. Asami hurriedly ran toward the girl in the wheelchair.
From the slight impact, the wheelchair was about to plunge off the cliff in an instant. In a panic, Asami leaned out from the cliff's edge as calmly as he could and reached out to the girl, and she firmly grabbed his arm.
Crash!
A close call. In that instant, the branch snapped, and the wheelchair fell into the ravine.
Asami pulled her up with all his strength. And the girl in the wheelchair, using the momentum, tumbled on top of Asami.
This was the fateful encounter between Asami Teruhiko and Utsuwa Miyuki.
